Fighting Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) helps to secure biodiversity for future generations and immediately helps to keep our endangered wildcats from extinction!
SWAG currently supports “boots on the ground” operations by fundraising for community ranger programs as well as participating in CAT WALKS.
In addition to this, the IWT Task Force was established to tackle IWT challenges outside the jungle. The IWT Task Force concentrates on the following actions
Alongside other conservation organizations, participate in government dialogues concerning
Singapore’s approach to fighting illegal wildlife trafficking. It is here that we advocate for stronger
enforcement and stronger penalties for trafficking.
Advocate for stronger penalties for people involved with illegal wildlife trade. We would like to see that those
involved with IWT are prosecuted as a member of an organized crime syndicate – with high penalties and
greater latitude for law enforcers in terms investigation scope.
Advocate for governments to use stronger detection tools so that they can stop illegal
wildlife shipments from taking place or to better discover them in transit. We hope by advocating for improved
criminal detection tools and methods, we can stop Singapore from being used as a transit port for illegal wildlife shipments.
